Turn Your Worry into Worship

DEVOTIONALS

I wish I could remember who it was, but I once heard someone say something so simple yet profoundly convicting: “Worrying is worship—you’re just worshiping the wrong thing.”

That hit me hard. It made so much sense. When we worry, we’re giving our focus, our energy, and our emotions—not to God, but to the problem. Let’s be real—”life be lifing.” There’s always something we could meditate on long enough to drive ourselves into a whirlwind of worry. There are personal struggles, family conflict, work drama, even discord in the church. The list goes on.

In fact, if I asked you to take out a piece of paper and write down every problem you’re currently facing, you could probably fill the page with ease. Why is that?

Because we often elevate our problems above the One who holds the solution.

  • Worry is worshipping in fear, not in faith.

  • Worry is worshipping in the flesh, not in the Spirit.

  • Worry is misplaced reverence.

The Bible presents worship in many dimensions. It’s not just about music or a Sunday service. It’s a way of living. There are several components in understanding worship comprehensively:

  • Worship as reverence and humility before God: “Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker” (Psalm 95:6).

  • Worship as obedience and sacrifice: “To obey is better than sacrifice…” (1 Samuel 15:22).

  • Worship as a daily offering of ourselves: “Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice… this is your true and proper worship” (Romans 12:1).

When we understand worship in this way, it changes everything. Worship is the wholehearted, reverent response to God’s worth and holiness—expressed through adoration, obedience, service, and a life aligned with His truth. It’s not just what we sing, it’s what we surrender.

So the next time you find yourself caught in worry, ask: What or who am I worshiping right now?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father—Father God,

I just want to thank You. First and foremost, thank You for who You are. You are everything that I need—my Father, my Friend, my Healer, my Counselor, my Redeemer, and so much more. I am who I am and where I am today because of You. Your consistent love and grace are what have kept me. Regardless of the trials and tribulations, I know that I can count on You. I know that You always show up, and You have never failed me. Failing is the only thing You can’t do. So today, I will not worship my problems or focus on what isn’t going right in my life. Instead, I will worship You and give You the praise that You deserve. Help me, Father. Help me to shift my focus back to You when I am worried or overwhelmed. And as the Serenity Prayer states:

“Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.”

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Scriptures to meditate on:

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (Matthew 6:34)

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with
thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)
